“Gorilla in the Greenhouse” is an action-packed animated web show that inspires kids to take real-world steps towards a healthier environment.
The show is set in a magical greenhouse in San Francisco, featuring a visionary green gorilla and four kids who use their imagination, their network and their music to tackle the environmental challenges facing their generation.
The pilot episode, entitled “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch,” features the Greenhouse Gang uncovering an island of plastic bags in the Pacific, was launched in coordination with the Earth Day organization on Earth Day, April 22. The episode was released with two full-length dance songs, “Bag the Bag (The Gyre Song)” and “Gorilla,” available here. In addition, the site provides classroom curriculum, clips of other kids taking creative actions to address waste and plastic bag use, and a toolkit to help other kids do the same.
The show is distributed through the kid’s web channel Green Gorilla (www.greengorilla.com), which is host to a variety of kids activities, videos about issues important to kids, music and eco-merchandise.
“Gorilla in the Greenhouse” is a SustainLane presentation. Future episodes, which will be launched beginning fall of 2008, will follow the Greenhouse Gang through adventures exploring energy efficiency, sustainable food consumption, global warming, deforestation, and renewables.
