Sealing air leaks around windows helps save energy especially in the winter time. Double hung windows with air leaks around the perimeter are easy to seal around the edges with ordinary masking tape.

Install Plastic Sheeting For Insulated Glass Windows
For an even more energy efficient window, you can use plastic sheeting and clear tape to seal and insulate the entire face of windows that you don’t open regularly. You’ll need your parents to help you with this one.
What You Need
- A bucket of warm soapy water
- A sponge
- Plastic sheeting
- Clear tape or blue masking tape
- A pair of scissors
- A hair dryer
What To Do
- Wash the inside edge of window panes with warm, soapy water.
- Cut double-sided tape with scissors to fit along the inside of the window pane.
- Peel one side of the backing off of the tape and stick it to the window frame.
- Peel off the exposed side of the double-sided tape on the top of the window.
- Starting at one corner, stick the plastic sheeting to the tape, forming a complete seal. Leave about an inch overlap to be trimmed later. Move slowly across the window, sticking the plastic to the tape.
- Repeat for the sides and bottom edges of the window.
- Trim the excess plastic with scissors or a utility knife.
- Smooth out any wrinkles in the plastic with a blow dryer. Keep the setting on low and slowly pass it over the plastic to shrink it to fit your window.
- Repeat this process to seal every window in your house. This will ensure that you will get the most out of your new insulation.
How’s that for a neat way to stay warm?
