For Teachers Only

Teachers,

Thank you for visiting!

Our purpose at GreenGorilla.com is to weave fun, vision and adventure with education about the environment. We do this through shows, information and actions that encourage kids to take small steps to big change. We also feature the actions kids take on the environment in our shows. To this effect, we want to bring you some teaching tools and action frameworks to support your classroom efforts.

With each show we provide different media resources and curricula for teachers who are looking to teach their students about important environmental issues using research, arts, science and social studies. Here are some lesson plans pertaining to our recent episodes:

1. Turn It Up Day

Mountaintop-Removal Coal Mining
A lesson plan created by  Kate Catlin for Earth Day Network

Here is a great lesson plan about Mountaintop removal, coal and energy efficiency, issues that have been very topical lately.  The lesson will inform students about coal mining and its connection to energy use, while empowering them to reduce energy in their own lives. Download it here.

2. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch

Plastic Bag Lesson Plan by Earth Day TV Network

To accompany our show, the Earth Day TV network has created a unique Plastic Bag Lesson Plan that informs students about the scope of the worldwide plastic bag problem, and provides them with ways to reduce plastic bag generation and waste. The science, art and environmental activities that they have outlined are appropriate for grades K- 12 and can be taught in an array of classroom settings. Download it here.

Curriculum Unit on Greener Bags

Here is a study unit that evolved from the successful reusable bag project started by a group of five high school students in Hanover, New Hampshire called Kids for a Cooler Planet. The kids worked with some talented educators to develop a simple, effective curriculum unit about plastic bag waste in the environment that engages and empowers students to change their world. The unit conforms to state science frameworks and is being piloted in VT and NH schools in February 2008. Download it here.

As we create further episodes of our show, we will be working with our partners to create further teaching tools to support your good work in the classroom. Please do sign up for our newsletter to stay posted. Also if you have activities, lesson plans or classroom projects that you would like to share or contribute to our website, we would love to here from you.  Please send ideas to info@greengorilla.com.

Dear Green Gorilla,

That is an excellent video but we need resources like this spark of kids interest…such videos should be made available as a sample to show in school….streaming a video in developing nations is not always an option.

Thankyou for making such enlightening resources.

As a teacher I would love to show this to my students.

regards

Hi Shalini,

Thanks very much for your comment. If there’s any suggestions of how we can make things easier for you please let us know! We provide DVDs through our site with this in mind, for one thing.

Best,

The Green Gorilla Team
